Legacy

The search and discovery of a community’s Earth Champions provides the precedent for ongoing programmes that inspire grass-roots adoption of unique and sustainable practices. The Foundation hopes to implement some of the Earth Champions’ ideas in local communities, and provide the platform for people to continue to innovate, share and inspire.

The Earth Champions Foundation Manual… coming soon

The Earth Champions will initiate a program to enable cities to recognise their local ecological heroes through community involvement in the local search and celebration of environmental achievements. The process is expected to become a catalyst for research, action and hope. The program will provide key Global Models for any modern city to make massive changes in its environmental indicators, with world-wide impact.

The Foundation and its partners will invite cities who wish to participate in the initiative, to submit a proposal to a distinguished panel who will select appropriate cities from Asia, Africa, Pacific Region, Greater Europe, Middle East, North America and South America. The process of preparing and examining the applications of Cities and assessment processes will take six months.

The Foundation will disseminate an Earth Champions Manual to participants, to teach communities how to conduct their own Quests.

The key elements will include:

  • Call for action – public is invited via extensive media coverage to nominate their environmental entrepreneurs
  • Knowledge Pond – ideas are collected, documented and presented as an environmental library of ideas
  • Evaluation – Champions are interviewed and go before an independent panel, including UN representatives, for the Outstanding Earth Champions to be selected
  • State of the Local Planet Report – the state of the local city’s environment will be measured and presented to the public; measure and manage
  • Community Day – The Champions and their ideas are presented and celebrated by the community that chose them, in a public event.
  • Community Engagement – The Foundation will further publicise and implement chosen Earth Champion ideas/innovations.
